Endoscopic Laser Surgery

The CO2 Laser is commonly used in the larynx. A laser works as a very precise haemostatic scalpel. The heat generated by the laser seals off blood and lymph vessels making it very useful while operating on cancers or vascular lesions of the larynx. In selected cancer of the voice box cases, endoscopic laser surgery provides the same results as external major surgery.

As the laser generates heat which is absorbed by the Superficial lamina Propria layer of the vocal fold, many laryngologists prefer performing cold steel microflap surgery especially for benign glottic lesions.

How we speak?

Two white folds, known as the true vocal folds, are present at the inlet of our breathing pipe. These vocal folds allow us to talk when they come together and vibrate. When they move apart, they form an inverted "V" and allow air to enter the breathing pipe and lungs for us to breathe.
